Smriti Mandhana was born in Mumbai on July 18, 1996, but at the age of two, her family moved to Madhavnagar area of Sangli, Maharashtra, where she spent her formative years.
Cricket has always been a part of Mandhana’s family where her father played at the provincial level. His brother Shravan also played cricket and represented the Maharashtra U-19 team before quitting the game and eventually becoming a banker.

“One day, I want to do this again,” Smriti Mandhana told ESPNCricinfo. “My father didn’t resist me, so every time my brother entered the net, he used to hit me with balls.”
“My brother and I play left-handed as my father likes left-handed batsmen. This is how it started,” says Smriti.
At the age of nine, Smriti Mandhana joined the Maharashtra U-15 team and after dominating the top contenders, she was quickly drafted into the state U-19 team at the age of 11.

At the age of 15, Smriti Mandhana found herself at a crossroads as her exams approached. He wanted to study science but his mother discouraged him because she knew it would be difficult to balance cricket with studies.
Mandhana chose commerce and later completed her education at Chintaman Rao College of Commerce, Sangli. This enabled him to devote more time to cricket.
Smriti Mandhana made her international debut for India in a T20 match against Bangladesh Women in Vadodara on April 5. At that time she was only 16 years old.

Interestingly, Smriti Mandhana’s bats were slightly larger in length during her debut. He revealed that it was not him who played the ball, but a bat signed by famous Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid, which was given to him by his brother.
“Shravan met Rahul sir and asked him if he can give me the bat. He gave it to him and told him to sign it with my name. My brother was very nice and he signed it for me. I will keep it as a souvenir. In the Under-19 International ODI at the Alembic Cricket Ground in Vadodara, Smriti Mandhana scored an unbeaten 224 off just 150 balls against Gujarat. Smriti Mandhana became the first Indian woman to score 20 centuries at any level in 50 cricket matches. She also scored two centuries in the tournament.

On 13 August 2014, Mandana made his Test debut against England at Wormsley. He scored 22 runs in the first and 51 runs in the second.
It was a historic victory for the Indian women’s cricketers, marking the team’s first championship in eight years and their only meeting with Wormsley.
Since then, Smriti Mandhana has become an integral part of Indian acting and one of the pillars of batting along with Harmanpreet Kaur and the retired Mithali Raj.
